It is a misconception that as your child grows older, you won’t be needed much.
Sure, they may not fit in your lap.
They may not need you to run after them to get stuff done.
You will still be their late night call, though.
They would still talk to you about their worries and fears, insecurities and problems.
Your strawberry smoothie and pancakes would still be their comfort meal.
Your child may grow older
And the way, they seek you will change
But don’t worry, seek they will.
They won’t hold your hand
But they will go for long walks with you
They won’t sit on your lap
But they will hug you tight, when their friends are not looking
They won’t say I love you every night before sleeping
But you will be their call, everytime they are low or need a pick me up
As mothers, as parents
Everything will change
Yet nothing will change, at all
You will still worry about them, incessantly and constantly.
You will do everything to make their day and life brighter.
You will still love them a bit more each day
And they will,
Always be your child, your little one
Even if they are a kindergartner or an entrepreneur
You will be a part of their best memories,
A holder of their deepest secrets and childhood insecurities,
Their 4am coffees and midnight tears,
You will always be their number one,
No matter how popular they are
So don’t worry, mumma,
Don’t worry, papa
You will get older,
They will get older too
but ,
You will always need each other.
