Which smartwatch to buy for your kids

I have done a lot of research on kids smartwatches. For my daughter’s upcoming birthday, she wished to have a smartwatch and that brought out a lot of digging around. She’s obviously too young for an Apple Watch or anything very expensive as there are high chances, it would get lost, misplaced, get scratched and stepped upon or even all!

A few specifications that I was looking for in every watch was GPS tracking and location calling, emergency calling/SOS button, battery life, keypad and number dial lock

Here are a few of the watches that I found best suitable for 9-11 year olds:

Noise: Noise brand has quite a lot of options which are budget friendly. There are 3 or 4 options out of which I particularly liked Noise Scout which comes with long battery life, sos, gps tracking and an app through which I can monitor her watch activity. It comes at the cost of INR 6000.

MyFone R1s: This Asian brand is by far my favorite because this is kid friendly. The interface is circular, with changeable straps, different watch faces, gps tracking, music, two way calling and all features. While the price is a bit steep at around INR 15,000 or USD 120$, its interface and look is definitely a win-win when buying your child his or her first smartwatch.

Fire Boltt: This is another Indian brand which has a lot of options catering to all specifications and demands. The newly launched Dream has all the features and more but it could get a little big for the child’s small hands. Otherwise, at INR 5500, this is a cheaper version of Apple Watch.

G-tab: G-tab is an UAE based brand which promises excellent and live tracking, a week long battery life and SOS calling- all the features I was looking for. The models W-900 and W-901 are particularly good and at the cost of AED 150-200, a decent piece to own.

Sekyo: This chinese brand is an excellent option and a widely popular choice for growing kids. Since the cost is less than INR 4000 and it comes with all features. The only downside for me is that the watch looks very plastic but a great budget buy.

Turet: This is another homegrown brand which comes with an affordable price tag of less than INR 5000 and has additional features like SPO2 check, heart rate checking, drink water and medicine reminders along with gps tracking, hd calling and a decent battery life.

Track me pro: An Indian brand that comes with a lot of handy features and a price tag of around INR 5000-1000.

Besides these, there are several other brands including FitBit, Apple Watch, Xiami and several local brands based on where you stay.

Also kindly note that for GPS tracking or location enabling, the watch needs an e-sim synced to you or your family member’s phone.

While it is wonderful to know that children today have a lot of options that were never even in our bucketlist of things to buy until we reached our mid-20’s and 30’s!

It is important to educate our children about the features of the watch, the do’s and the don’ts and while a little freedom and space is good; it is imperative to keep tabs on their search and call history and restrict unnecessary actions.

Better safe than sorry, always!

Does your kid own a smartwatch? Which of these appeal to you?
